The Dowans is owned, operated and run by the Murray sisters Steph and Lauren, MDs of Shawfern Group Limited, a small group of boutique hotels. Passionate about all things that relate to hospitality, we have built a team who are equally passionate in their focus and dedication to provide service that is warm, professional and, most importantly, consistent.
With a dedicated whisky collection in our snug, The Still, a curated wine and drinks list in MBar, and food that retains a keen focus on seasonality and locality, where possible, we have built a business over 11 years that has gained an international, national and local reputation for a quality product. The key indicator of our team’s success is how many guests we have return to us time after time, or send their friends and family our way, firm in the knowledge that they will be ‘coming home’ to be treated as part of our extended family.
Our team mean the world to us and for all extents and purposes are the reason that we have a successful business. We are adherents to the Real Living Wage with all hourly staff who are over 18 paid that standard wage; those who are with us for longer periods and who work full time benefit from wages that far exceed that level. We firmly believe in the progression of our team and support (and have supported) team members through on and off site qualifications, regularly hold training sessions in whisky, wine, coffee etc, and the ability to bring ‘life’ into work so any extra-curriculars or other interests that would work in our business will be welcomed. We hire people rather than robots so your personality will absolutely be the first thing that we consider on you joining our team as we can train everything else!
