“A cup of coffee shared with a friend is happiness tasted and time well spent”* (Arabic proverb)
Life has several ups and downs, many of which mean we sometimes forget about catching up with those that mean the most…why not take the time out from the hectic nature of life and appreciate some good food, good service in a comfortable environment and the good company of friends.
The menu is catered to either a light lunch or a slightly heavier dinner (please let us know which you would prefer at the time of booking) but will be kept the same price: £10.95 for two courses; £14.95 for three.
* Have this cup of coffee or tea on us.
WHISKERIA ARTICLE, AUGUST 2013
A well respected journalist in the whisky world, Dominic Roskrow, visited us whilst on his journey down the Spey by canoe with Dave Craig of Spirit of the Spey (http://www.spiritofthespey.co.uk/). Click here for a digital version of the article and here is a snippet that mentions us:
“Where to stay THE DOWANS HOTEL
This hotel in under new ownership and in a period of transition but is an absolute delight. The charming family who own it play an active role in making guest comfortable, and they and their staff are everything you want your Scottish hosts to be – (and sorry, to say, too often are not). The hotel has retained its links with the fishing community but has dispensed with the stuffiness that comes with that. A new bar is set to open because the current one – a mini Craigellachie-like room – is too small. Two restaurants cater for all tastes – 57 is a casual bistro style room and is my kind of place. The food is outstanding and there wasn’t an item on the menu I wouldn’t have enjoyed. The fine dining restaurant Spé is set to open soon. The rooms are tastefully decorated with modern bathrooms. Now if they just get a good dry cider on draught…” (Dominic, we will get a draught cider in for your next visit!)

FESTIVE SEASON AT THE DOWANS

Celebrate this festive season in the warmth and comfort of the Dowans, located right in the heart of beautiful Speyside. Whether you are seeking to escape to enjoy a relaxing, romantic break with a loved one or to get together with family and friends to celebrate the festive season, we here at the Dowans will do everything possible to ensure that your time with us is an enjoyable one. To find out more click here.
The Dowans Hotel has recently been awarded a “Certificate of Excellence” by TripAdvisor – an award presented by the travel website to hotels ranked by them in the top 10% in the world.
We have also been presented with an “8+” award from Booking.com for achieving an average score of over eight (out of ten) in guests’ reviews of their stays with us.
In December 2012 The Dowans Hotel was bought by the Murray family; it was love at first sight. Although the hotel enjoys a loyal clientele, with many visitors returning year after year, it was clear that the hotel was in need of major renovation. We have big plans for The Dowans and work has already begun. We will be continually upgrading the rooms and facilities over the course of the year while minimising disruption to our guests.
During this time we will remain open as usual and we very much look forward to welcoming you to our new home.
